The new year is upon us and it's a time when many people resolve to make changes in their lives. They start off ready to take on the world and tell themselves that this time they are really going to stick to it no matter what. But as the weeks wear on, somehow the resolve wains and they are back to old habits.
So what happened? People fail because they are using the same techniques and yet still expect to achieve different results. They overlooked the fact that what they did in the past did not work and forged ahead anyway. They went back to what they knew instead of seeking out a new way of approaching their goal.
Change can be difficult because it's knowing that you are entering into the unknown. This can cause a lot of anxiety for people because we want to stay with the familiar. It's safe. We are wired this way for our own protection. Consider the scenario that you are walking on path in a wooded park. You stay on the path not just because you're supposed to, but because it's possible we could get lost if we venture into the forest.
Fortunately we also have the power to overcome our fears and make positive changes in our lives. We simply have to choose to be open to new ideas, new education and new habits. How and what have you decided to change in 2013 and how is this time going to be different?
