Not that kind of carded.  Holiday carded.

Getting and receiving holiday cards can be a big task. Breaking it down into smaller chunks can make it easier to manage and a more enjoyable process.  If you are sending cards out this year, try these top 10 tips.
  1. If you are planning on a family photo, schedule now or find a picture of what you are going to send.
  2. Gather your supplies -stamps, pen return address labels, envelopes, pictures etc.
  3. Collect all your addresses
  4. If you keep both an online and hard copy list of addresses, grab a buddy and read off the addresses  to ensure you have the most current list.
  5. Update your master list!
  6. If you write a letter, ask for family help.  What do they want to include?
  7. Remember that even little kids can help with stamps and return address label.
  8. If you have a large list,do a little bit week so it's not overwhelming.
  9. When you get holiday cards from other people, check to  you have the same address for next year.
  10. Have fun and enjoy the process.

Top ten recipe ready tips

It's been said that most families prepare only about 20 different recipes for dinner.  At this time  of year many people find they are hauling out their recipe cards and cookbooks to find their perfect addition to their holiday celebrations.

  1. Ensure that you are ready to whip up that family favorite with these actions that you can do now.  Remember to keep any special dietary needs in mind.
  2. Make a list of dinner celebration options and pull those recipes out. You can edit it anytime.
  3. Consider copying and laminating your recipe cards for easy clean up.
  4. As you are going through recipes, toss any you haven't used in a year.
  5. If you come across a recipe you really do want to try, tape it to your cupboard.  If you haven't made it in two weeks, toss the recipe.  You won''t ever make it.
  6. Purge your spices.  If in doubt, throw it out
  7. Assess your baking supplies. How much baking will you do this year?
  8. Put these specialty items in a separate place.  Consider creating a baking area or putting these items in a clean box that you can pull out when you are ready.
  9. Make a list of spices and ingredients you need to replenish
  10. Take a look at your pots and pans.  Are they in good condition?  Can you easily reach them?
As you sit and enjoy a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate), make a list of things that are coming to mind right now.  You probably will find that there are more things to remember that you originally thought about.

Expending a little amount of energy now will help spend more enjoyable TIME with your family and guests.

I love my tree

10/26/2015

I have a beautiful tree that sits just outside the dining room window. I can't wait to see it change it's leaves from green to blazing yellow and orange.  Each day during the fall I look to see if it is completely changed or not.  And then one morning,  BAM!  It's out there magnificently displaying it's spectacular colors.

Times of transition are always tied to a lot expectations and excitement.  It can be difficult to keep focused on what is in front of you. It can be like chasing a moving target.  This is where organization and planning come in to play.  When you stop to take time to plan and organize, you are simply "minding the gap"  You are creating a sanity circle to focus on where you need to put your energy.

When in doubt of where to put your energy, ask yourself this?
  • What has a deadline?
  • What has to happen first?
  • What's the worst thing that will happen if I don't do "X"?

I had to shake my head the last time I went to my local arts and crafts store.  There was so much holiday decor and it streamed from one holiday to the next. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hannakuh, Christmas and the New Year.  It's crazy.

How do the retailers keep up with it all?  They have an organized plan that started months ago.

You probably are already thinking about the holidays too. (How can you not?). To get you started on your master holiday plan, check out the link below.
