Reverse that

Yesterday I was at the Mayo Clinic and it was a great reminder about how keeping your information organized is crucial. This week I am going to share with you what I learned and how to improve your information organization process.

The reverse process
Taking a vacation is fun.  But you know how everyone says the bummer part is doing the laundry and unpacking is such a bummer?  Well, same thing for information.  Even though I had brought my copy of my medical records and had requested that my medical records be previously forwarded to Mayo, I STILL have additional paperwork to manage today.

This week is like dirty laundry day only instead of laundry, it's managing the information from yesterday. It's setting aside time in my calendar to process the paperwork I brought home.

Organizational improvement tip: When making appointments or scheduling upcoming events, also schedule time in your calendar to download and process.   Here are some questions to ask yourself.
  • Is there anything I have to do?
  • What item happens first?
  • Who do I have to follow up with?
  • What went well?
  • What did I learn?
  • Do I have to keep this information?
  • Where should  I keep that information?

By scheduling time in your day/week for processing you aren't having to find time to do it.  It's already on your schedule.  Remember, you can always move the time to another dated, but you have the notation right there.
