![]() Tying thing up certainly is the mantra of the season. Packages, ribbons and bows all over and wrapping paper in every design. And wrapping things up is exactly what you should be doing this time of year. In the midst of all the excitement, there are some details that you may need to wrap up before the end of the year. Donations - Are there charities or organizations you wish to donate to? Investments - Do you need to review year end adjustments Savings - are there savings accounts that you want to add to (kids college) Information backup - When was the last time you did a computer backup? You can easily do a back up on an external hard drive or enlist the help of an online storage system. End of year files - Do you have a location where you can put your end of year files? If nothing else, make one folder to put your documents. Creating next year's files. As your end of year statements are coming in, take a look at what kind of information you need to keep track of. You may need to slightly adjust your files for easier filing. You may want to consider an online system. Photo storage - Photos come in all shapes and sizes these days and you want to make sure you keep all the important ones. It's easy to think that because they are stored on an electronic device that they will always be available. Edit your photos and save the favorites to a safe location. Home repair - Are there any upgrades or repairs that you need to complete before the end of the year? Now is the time to get that tied up too. Reimbursement account - Do you have a HSA or flex account? Make sure you don't loosing any funds because you didn't file them. Gift certificates/Rebates - Don't forget your rebates and gift certificates. Consider having a gift card day and use up what might be expiring. I did it once and it was a blast! There are many pieces to tie up this time of year. But don't get overwhelmed. Pick one thing you are going to tie up and check it off your list. One completed task is better than no completed task.
